Home Pt. 1
04:05
|
|||
As I wander through this strange world
with these bright skies and these red lights
I just wonder how you all are
all the way back home.
Is it sunny? Is your cold gone?
Did I leave the kitchen stove on?
Are you happy? Do you miss me?
How are you getting by alone?
Well I’m alright, I’m fine.
I guess I’m meant to roam.
To never settle down somewhere,
to never have a home.
And I don’t know where your town is
and I don’t know how I came
I just know that once I got there
my entire life had changed.
It’s not what I was expecting
it’s not what I thought I wanted
but these moments I’ve collected
are the times I’d never trade.
And they’re all in my mind
These memories you’ve sown
like when I asked and you agreed
that we could start a home
I guess I was delusional or otherwise just juvenile
to think that just by wishing I could change the facts
but I’m a scientist and none of this can alter the hypothesis
that I don’t belong anywhere, in fact
I’ve been thinking for some time now
maybe this was meant to be
maybe I’m meant to get stuck here
and you’re meant to be here with me
But sometimes I close my eyes and
I see nothing but the strange land
where I found friends, love, and purpose
and for once I was not alone.
When those doors shut, then I realized
that no matter how hard I tried
I could never be a part of
that place that I called home.
But that’s alright, it’s fine
‘cause thanks to you I’ve known
what it feels like to live somewhere
what it feels like to love someone
to truly have a home.

Any Other Name
03:53

I used to wonder what my purpose was
what I was meant to do
and then my purpose found a synonym; that synonym was you.
I know I don’t have all the answers yet, but I’m always finding more
and I’ve the answer to just one question:
What am I fighting for?
That which we call a Rose by any other name
would be someone who I’d die for
I know she’d do the same.
And that which I call my heart has forever been claimed
and there will come a time, when I’ll be by your side
and I will finally know my place, I’ll finally know my place
These days I suffer no delusions
I know why I was made
but lately I’ve started to wonder; why must I be what they say?
And so I built a new foundation
and I put you at its core
but now you’re gone and I can’t stop searching
but what am I searching for?
That which we call a Rose by any other name
would be something that I could love
perhaps with time, someday.
And that which I call my home is oft subject to change
but there will come a time, and there will come a day
I’ll finally know my place, I’ll finally know my place
I never wanted to be a mother
I only wanted to be your other half
But in the light of recent changes
I’ve learned that life sometimes rearranges
and maybe what broke your heart could give you a new one
and maybe what broke your heart could give you a new one
That which we call a Rose by any other name
would be made of the one I love
I’ll love them all the same
and that which I call my life
I’ve taken by the reigns
I think that now’s the time, I think today’s the day
I’ve finally found my place, I see it right there in your face

A Time for Us

Look around, just look at you. What do you see?
A man with a mind and some wires and papers and me.
Just look around. How does it all fit in place
with the world we have saved but don't have the courage to face?
Tell me now, how do your numbers compute?
Are you afraid of something you cannot dispute?
Are you afraid they'll suddenly see the real you?
Or is it fear of something you know is not true?
You are a mind of a century, darling.
Nothing they tell you will ever change that.
You got a peek at eternity starting.
You got at things that they never got at.
Cry all you want and just keep waiting.
For there will come a time for us.
No more inhibitors, no hesitating
for there will come a time for us.
Look at you, look at your 41 years
knowing and loving and numbers and losing and tears
look at them, what have they all got to show?
Arrogance, silence, and all of the things they don't know.
Take a breath, listen up, what's in your ear?
A message, a puzzle, a death toll that no one can hear
You didn't know, couldn't know who made you wrong
but you were amazing and we knew the truth all along.
It's only the time of the century, darling
the world has been changing since you came along
these rules and this hatred that left you for dead
soon after you are they all will be gone.
Do what you can and just keep giving
for there will come a time for us.
After your life ends we will keep living
and there will come a time for us.
Look at all the pathways you have paved
the people you have saved
who put you in your grave.
Look at all the things you know are true
the things that you will do
and tell me what are you, what are you?

Hold me in your arms and wait for me to die.
When the cycle turns, don’t forget to cry for me
and wait a little while, hold your breath and then
I might not remember but I’ll come round again.
Spend your living well, don’t waste your time on Earth
but only dying changes what your soul is worth.
Once you’re late you’ll open gates for others to cross
your fate isn’t yours, it’s not your coin to toss.
Counting the lives, counting the lies
counting your bodies and how they all die
live and forget the things that you’ve seen
wait and repeat ‘til you die nineteen.
Some people try on bodies like others try on lives
some will forfeit death while others stay alive
and in this world of tale plays and lives that we forgot
who can say what’s made up, what is and what is not?
Which side are you on? The one that never dies?
That decorates their skin with porcelain and lies?
Or mortal flesh and blood with lives that always end
but souls that only perish once we’ve tried again?
Counting the lives, counting the lies
counting your bodies and how they all die
live and forget the things that you’ve seen
wait and repeat until nineteen.
Rule of thumb: the rule of one
won’t stop the harvest once you’re done
with counting up and counting down
the lives, the lives.
Counting the lives, counting the lies
counting your bodies and how they all die
live and forget the things that you’ve seen
wait and repeat until nineteen.

The Great
04:45
|
|||
When I was young, I tried to run from fate
I ran but I tripped and I fell
and destiny got the best of me
so I took it and I wore it well.
I put down my flute, I picked up my gun
and though i’ve fought more wars than I’ve won
I don’t pick and choose cause if I lose I’ll just come back again
say hello to Silesia!
When I was young I loved a boy
and so my father put a bullet through his head.
I had to watch and so I thought, I would learn to love the state instead.
Love the land as long as you own it,
love the throne as long as long as it’s your throne, it doesn’t matter.
Love the crown as long as it’s upon your head,
or until you’re dead, dead. Buried in the ground.
six feet under a glittering crown.
Dead, dead, better dig it down.
Down down down.
So you think you can take me? You think you can break me down?
You think you can make me? You think you can take me out?
You think you can beat me? Well, Maria Theresa thought so too.
I’m the soldier son of the soldier king so hey, you wanna go in the ring? Go!
So what am I to you? A crown? A name?
I did what I could do, you’d do the same.
I fought and I expanded, I taught the empty-handed
To grow a newer world on land that I won
(one) second of you life is all it takes to win to lose to make a mistake
If you wanna do what you can, you gotta make the plans
You gotta do it all, make the tough calls.
There’s a way the world works. Everything is just so
My empire’s empirical and data is a must, so
I read up and I bring it down and
I rose up and I took the crown and
Who’d’ve thought a poet, a quiet child could go it
In the ring as a king, well that’s the thing!
When I am alive, they’ll bow to me
And when I’m dead they’ll bow to my grave.
They’ll never say I didn’t try
And they’ll never say that I wasn’t brave.
They’ll remember me after I’m late,
There’s a reason why they call me The Great.
Potatoes or politics, take your pick
I got both on my resume. Hey!
Now, I run my nation with justification of my actions and facts to back me up
cause I’m enlightened. Don’t be frightened if I seem a bit unnerving
let me tell you, I’m deserving of my power ‘cause I wield it like a king
class and status ain’t gonna give you brains,
you gotta have what it takes and make your own damn way to the top
I know that I was born into this crown,
but I am sailing like a ship where other monarchs have drowned.
So you can dirty my name, make me into a god
to cleanse your Germany of vermin, well I guess you forgot
that I read my Voltaire, and I know that nothing national
can ever beat the fact that man is rational.
So if I gotta go down in history, then history is going down with me!
So you think you can take me? You think you can break me down?
You think you can make me? You think you can take me out?
You think you can beat me? Well, Maria Theresa thought so too.
I’m the soldier son of the soldier king so hey, you wanna go in the ring? Go!

Home Pt. 2
04:55
|
|||
This is my home, it’s the only I know
And I carry it with me wherever I go.
From the sun up above to the sands down below
I know every step, every road.
I’ll give you a tour of our life together
Here’s where you sit and you wait for the weather
Here’s where I saw you the very first time
Here’s where you said you’d be mine.
And here’s where you kissed me right under the lights
And here’s where you left me and said your goodnights
Here’s where we walked and here’s where we strolled
And here’s where you left me alone.
This is my home and I want you to share it
This is my world and I want you to be there
I want you to be there, you’ll be with me there
And we’ll be two halves of a home
This is my home, a place of my own
My spot in at my desk with my microphone
I see and I hear, I speak and I know
Together we seek, and we grow.
This is the place where you looked in my eyes
We thought it was over, we said our goodbyes
But the world is mysterious, and you didn’t die
And we kept on living our lives.
So here’s where the stars shine brilliantly
And here’s where we parted indefinitely
Here’s where I waited, and waited and waited
And here’s where you came back to me.
This is my home and I want you to share it
This is my world and I want you to be there
I want you to be there, you’ll be with me there
And we’ll be two halves of a home
This is my home, it’s the only I know
And I carry it with me wherever I go.
From the sun up above to the sands down below
I know every step, every road.
This is my home, and I want you to know
That you’re more than a guest and I’m more than a host.
And you’ll never be lost, cause my home is a part
Of whatever you keep in your heart.
This is the spot where we fought for our freedom
This is the place where we followed our hearts
This is the road that we set on together
Now we’ll never travel apart.
This is my home and I want you to share it
This is my world and I want you to be there
I want you to be there, you’ll be with me there
And we’ll be two halves of a home
